Why would consistency between them be desirable? Both are wildly different beasts with wildly different capabilities.

Every design is tailored around constraints. Importing the design language of iOS into macOS imports its constraints.

If we ignore that, we end up with nonsense such as the iOS dialog boxes in macOS. [1]

Someone who has an iPhone and gets a MacBook would find the new settings preference familiar and trust in the search bar and vice versa going forward.
