Right, so no medical institution in their right mind would buy that device. Paying a little more up front for what is effectively a permanent insurance policy is a no-brainer for any large organization.

As opposed to paying a little more up front to a third party insurance agency or offering to pay more to the OEM for an optional insurance plan? I don't see your point.

A medical institution will be paying for the insurance one way or another no matter what. It's either fronted by the institution itself, or in the cost of the equipment that they purchase.


Do you have an example of an OEM or insurance company that will provide that policy?


Well put. I'm trying to imagine a hospital asking a third party to insure a homemade medical device. Would never happen.
