I was a huge Anacreon fan back in the day, thank you for hours and hours of entertainment!

I really appreciate that! I had a lot of fun working on it. Thank you!

Aren't all sciences were born from philosophy? Graduating from the journey of understanding the meaning of something and graduating to measuring it to further understand why the world works the way it works?

Social sciences, economics, and medicine are relatively immature (hundreds of years versus thousands) compared to the hard sciences. These fields all apply the scientific method to the best degree available and the subject matter is pretty complex therefore results are difficult to reproduce. They could do a better job at self-regulation, but maybe that's part of its maturation process.

Humans with their personalities and motivations are harder to "science".

Yes, I would say that science is a branch of epistemology that uses evidence to generate knowledge to increase predictive power. I think the difference between hard and soft sciences is just how tangible your predictions are.

Soft fields are definitely harder to research, but instead of acknowledging this, many soft researchers ignore epistemological limits to make their research sound ‘harder.’

A good example is this psych researcher deriving equations of emotion based on fluid mechanics [O]. Somehow people in these fields don’t understand and/or care and allow this bullshit to continue.

I think many or most soft research programs are currently in “degenerate” territory (Lakotos)

If someone in the U.S. told me something was 'n' football fields long I would assume they mean 100 yards excluding the endzones.

I bet half the time someone gives the length of something in football fields they make that same "error"

Also didn't football fields change size when the goal posts were moved? It's not even a stable measurement!

Meanwhile americans bitch and moan about meters but are perfectly fine using yards. The navy even used to use kiloyards as a unit of measure for naval gun range!

I am now expecting to see a movie/TV series with what you described as the plot.

I like where your head is at; I found this [1] and it makes a case that an attack vector may be created.

That's different - that's about changing the _client_ configuration. I'm looking to change the server instead, so that the client can use an unambiguous reference to an image, but end up at different registries depending on the server configuration. In a perfect world, Docker Hub would let you do this to migrate community projects away, but even just being able to manually change references now to a registry-agnostic URL would be a big help.

Shouldn't be any security risk there AFAICT. Just hard to tell if it's functionally supported by typical registry clients or if there are other issues that'd appear.

"I thought I was assuming my rights under the 9th Amendment, and the last time I read the Constitution it didn't say nothing about me not allowed to pee in this alley, Officer."

Seems our options are a) deal with the persistent stench of pee in alleyways, or b) deal with the fallout of men driven to madness by Navi the Crime Prevention Fairy.

This reminds me of the chorus of "Rockets on the Battlefield" Kool Keith/Black Elvis

I took a studio design course and the teacher remarked that it was not uncommon in the 1970s to use a "private" transmitter to play audio they were actively mixing to create optimize the sound for playing in a car. I find it very interesting, how challenging it was working with the music industry and the fact how much of the environment is taken into account.

I had this same conversation with my father last week. He is a low-frequency communicator, so when I get the "Call me" text I feel I have to take a deep breath and brace myself for thew news.

I had to have the conversation twice; the first time I got really mad at my mom for sending me "Call me as soon as you can". She didn't really get why I was so upset - probably because I was too upset to think clearly about why I was.

The next time it happened, I clued my folks in to the subtext of that message for people of my generation. They were horrified and apologized profusely. They've also never done it since.

Interesting, half my lawn is St. Augustine and with a simple mulching mower I have never had to collect clippings. (Coastal NC)

You don't typically plant St. Augustine that far north, maybe it's just not thriving?
