Bills - Make sure every bill you have is sent to you paperless. Some banks and other firms have to send you paper statements until you ask for it to be paperless.
Mail - Checkout Earth Class Mail which receives and scans your mail and even deposits checks for you.
Office drop or Shoeboxed - service that sends you an envelope every month for you to fill up. They scan and send you a PDF.
Regular writing - get an IPad and install Noteshelf, which let's you save everything as a searchable PDF.
Not quite pure coding but I have certainly started dabbling with automator on my Mac. My favorite one so far is the special folder I setup on my desktop that automatically prints anything that gets dragged into it. This becomes very useful when you have more than one attachment to an email.
I would also recommend Hazel, which will automatically do some folder cleanup/maintenance for you based on a series of rules you setup.
Finally I use TextExpander religiously to never have to type the same email again.
A non-technical trick I learned was to try to send emails 10am local time of the recipient, Tuesday thru Thursday. I found this was the time I was most likely to get a response because most people don't like responding on the weekends to non-personal messages. On Monday they are digging out from the pile of messages from the weekend, on Friday they just want to get thru the day.
