My first cat (who just magically arrived in our garden) is only 5 years with us. But it's so cool how you learn to read their body language and noises/sounds so quickly and so well.

I remember, before I had a cat, that cats could be so unpredictable. A good friend of mine had a cat that loved to be pet, but could claw you a millisecond later. Now, after owning one, I can read their faces, ears, tail and other cues. I'm sure I could have read that cat better now.

I converse with mine too. He replies with a positive prrr or yell if he agrees. If he's not interested in what I'm offering, he will look disinterested. I love him to bits.

I completely lost taste and smell around 2022 too. It wasn't like a clogged nose, I could absolutely not sense anything with my tongue and nose (except for touch). I read stories about it not coming back for some people and it absolutely shook me. At that moment I realized how much I love delicious food and that smell is a great indicator for things you might not expect (e.g. heat).

It luckily fully came back in my case, but it took many months. But it was properly scary! So weird that a viral infection (that didn't even make me very sick) could have such long-lasting and potentially life-altering effects.

I got covid once back in the summer of '22. I had high fever (40C) for two days but my taste and smell were gone for an entire month. Losing two of my five senses for so long was something I never want to experience again.

Yes and no. They did buy it and just let it die. They were so far ahead of the competition at the time.

It was dead long before Google was involved. Pebble filed for insolvency back in 2016 with Fitbit acquiring much of the assets. It was dead at this point. 5 years later Google bought Fitbit.

Looks like there is money in the business of hyped-dying startups. First Pebble, then Beeper, and now Pebble again.

is there no end to the cynicism?

Is beeper dead?

Taken over by Automattic after a publicity-stunt against Apple

Oof. That stinks.

They bought Fitbit, not pebble

Not gonna lie, I expected bleep bloop sound effects when clicking buttons

I feel like pretty much all cheaters can be detected by just looking at mouse movements vs enemy positions. If you can easily spot cheaters through a killcam or spectator view, they can be detected through a serverside watchdog, no?

Unfortunately the cheats are way ahead of this. Most modern aimbots in shooters like Counter-Strike are (intentionally) not-obvious. They give minor advantages and do tiny corrections for an already-immensely-skilled player to gain a small edge. In a game where the difference between a great player and an elite player is small, they can be the invisible difference maker.

I remember watching a video about a dude who was building a mothership-launched glide drone that could land using camera vision. The idea was something like "the highest egg drop" or something like that. He was speaking with academics about his idea, who quickly told him to stop whatever he was doing because that would effectively be a forbidden military device. Guided artillery, basically.

Sadly I don't remember who it was, it was a fun story. I thought it was maybe Mark Rober or Joe Barnard but I really can't find it anymore.

Edit: found it! It was launched from a weather balloon, and it was both Mark and Joe. https://youtu.be/BYVZh5kqaFg

Happened to codyslab, videos taken down now (but still on archive.org) of a uranium purification process and possibly nilered,no way to prove it but he had a 'making rocket fuels: part 1' that was never followed p on. Not totally sure though as people like BPS space on yt have some pretty in depth tutorials on solid rocket motors (does explicitly censor how to make the ignition component)

Uhm, there are plenty of videos about making solid rocket fuel. Model rocketry doesn't need any special permits until you get to launching large rockets.

I guess once you have the permits it doesnt matter. With the nilered vids, they were more of the more hypergolic variety

That is probably why Eric Schmidt (ex Google CEO) develops his AI combat drones in Estonia instead of US.

You would get a generic result probably.

Run the model on your PC. Done?

I used to work in an office that had beautiful views over a big river. I remember that there were a lot of issues with the WiFi, despite having switched between all major Access Point manufacturers to try and get a properly working setup. In the end it turned out to be the radars of ships causing issues.

Yup. Dealing with Google often gives me strong "I'm being held hostage" vibes.

Our apps have been rejected from the Play Store for bogus reasons multiple times. Sometimes it's an easy fix (aka just release the same update but with higher version number - to get another bot or human to take a look), sometimes it takes a week, sometimes we've had to pull strings and had to escalate our issue through a contact at Google. But if you're a small fish, they will absolutely let you rot.
