I agree wholeheartedly. However, I sincerely doubt most distros will adopt it, for the simple reason that unifying the packaging infrastructure means more-or-less obsoleting the concept of a distribution.



A "distribution", at its core, is simply a (nominally curated) collection of software which works well together. The packaging system is, or should be, a red herring.


Would it, though? Wouldn't a distribution just become a specific configuration of source, binaries, and other data?
