Great idea. In terms of how to pitch this to businesses, one angle I haven't seen mentioned so far is to emphasise how improvements in open source dependencies not used by competitors could give you a direct commercial edge. For example in my previous company we had our own DSL for algo trading algorithms that used LLVM, whereas all our competitors solutions were Java based. Any performance improvements we contributed to LLVM would benefit us but not our competitors.
