Figures that the HN server would die at the same time of an Azure announcement. Azure isn't exactly best known for its uptime.

True, Azure did have a major outage in November 2014, significantly more than the other popular providers:

That's can't be the only reason to choose (or ignore) a particular platform, because:

- 100% is not commercially feasible

- with rare exceptions, a little downtime won't kill you
