2008 was a very good year with a large number of high-profile, high-quality titles released.

Here are June 2007's NPD stats: http://www.playstatic.com/news/652 - you'll notice they're very much in the same range as this year.

This year's going to be a bad year, by the way. The Christmas lineup is looking very empty with most of the major titles being delayed into 2010, although MS and Sony are expected to drop the console prices. Next year's going to be a belter - it's completely packed with releases.
