If you have a problem with the new Gmail, you can use the ancient gmail at https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=html&zy=h and set it as default. I honestly didn't even know that there was a new Gmail.
If you look at that basic html version and cry about all of the features you're missing, IMO you're really just being a backseat driver. You're not going to like every improvement that they make, but if you like enough of them to render how we used email in the very near past completely unusable, then they're doing a good job.
