Petrichor is one of the great neologisms of the English lexicon. An excellent word for an excellent, trans-cultural sensation.



Never thought I'd actually see this word used outside of an episode[1] of Doctor Who. That or maybe an episode of Jeopardy. It certainly doesn't appear to be a well known word.

I first heard it in Aesop Rock's song Tetra [1]: "surface from the cellar door like worms into the petrichor".
