Yet there are those of us who enjoy our jobs and don't mind spending 40 hours a week doing something fulfilling, and who look forward to exercising and don't look at it like a chore, or who take great pleasure in saving money and being frugal.



Yes, and that's great, but it doesn't invalidate the general trend.


And how sure are we it's a general trend? Are there any numbers anybody can point to?


Plenty of studies on job satisfaction exist. I just googled "job satisfaction trends" and got various studies, and this article from 2010:
