Haha, yeah, I worked with some ex-Googlers and experienced a similar review system. I often had multiple unrelated sections to work on while something was being approved, not to mention multiple iterations of the branch stuck in the approval bottleneck too. I guess other companies like Pivotal Labs get around this by pair programming, which I never thought of as an alternative to code review until now. Hmm.
