What release channel of Firefox are you running? I had no problems in Aurora.

Aurora 17.0a2 (2012-10-02). I assume it's probably GPU acceleration related.

Running Aurora and warning that it crashes "Firefox" is a bit alarmist.

Worked fine for me with whatever the latest Firefox Beta is (from ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next).
