Android/iOS/Metro -- whichever one has a properly executed answer to OneNote is going to succeed like gangbusters.

(Putting it that way, it speaks to serious dysfunction at Microsoft if it's not them, and indeed, there's a good chance that it may not be them.)

You're right that note-taking will be one of the killer apps for the next generation of tablets. OneNote for Metro ("OneNote MX") is already available in beta, so I'm guessing Microsoft is chasing that:
