Confessions of a Hinge Power User (wired.com)

sounds like a lotta work.

Good for them I guess. Online dating is tough because in the last few decades the entire planet's access to all the information all the time from (nearly) all cultures, all perpetually in your purview is… a lot.

It's hard for people to get along. Before, there was an ignorance, the people you meet in your town and share a life with, well that's still hard, even with the large overlap of shared context and values.

More information is good. Increased tolerance one would hope. But there's growing pains. The entire world is learning how to get along.

It's Friday night and i'm taking a break from creating my website framework. This is me getting social. lol

(i didn't read the article at all)

Don't see much by way of "confessions" in the article

I wonder if Hinge is one of the "shows me nobody" sites or one of the "shows me people who don't like me" sites

hinge, when i last used it ~1 year ago, was easily the best dating app in this regard. i wasn’t seeing the most appealing women, changed a few profile photos, and within a few hours my feed had updated to a much more palatable class of gal. i’ve also had by far the most success on hinge vs competitors.

still awful stuff for the soul, though. as evinced by the hollow and rather pathetic testimonial of our “power user”.

Sorry young guys. Every time I read about dating apps it sounds so horrible. Good luck out there.

"JB identifies as heterosexual"

Why is this even relevant or a thing these days... just write the story.

Really? Why is that more off putting than stating an age or any other demographic information that’s relevant to the piece?

Because it shifts the focus away from the content and implies identity is important in the text. Also, it can create unnecessary bias and distract from the actual value of the discussion.
