The distance between "I've seen such comments on HN" and "environmentalists successfully prevented even the discussion of a technology for decades" is rather vast.
And that's giving you the benefit of the doubt, that you're not talking about comments that are actively discussing carbon capture, but just saying it's a bad idea.
Ah, I misunderstood your comment. I don't think environmentalists have slowed carbon capture much if at all. Many of them are opposed to it but they're pretty ineffective.
