This is missing any discussion of the dynamic functionality you can add with a bit of vanilla JavaScript.



The article's insistence on differentiation between "web sites" and "web applications" and a further article linked in the footnotes about the "HTML5 coup"[0] suggests the author doesn't consider functionality added by javascript to be valid for web sites, which they define as purely documents, only web applications. This seems to be a common viewpoint on HN, from what I've observed.
