High upfront capital costs for tube infrastructure and relative inflexibility once set up might dominate the decision.



Robots aren't cheap either. And the safety concerns, or maybe even the nuisance of having those robots roaming the hallways, adding to the traffic might trump everything else.


A tube system is cheaper than I thought, about $300-500K for a big hospital system:
