One of the things I’ve found most interesting about reading pulp era fiction like Doc Smith’s Lensmen series or de Camp’s Lest Darkness Fall is how a surprising number of those works assume that the reader is at least passingly familiar with the mechanics of organized election fraud, simply as basic cultural knowledge. You can tell from the technical vocabulary they use to describe various roles played in political machines and other context clues.
Isn’t it wonderful that we live in a progressive and enlightened age where electoral fraud never occurs to a significant degree? Especially not in the most important elections where billions if not trillions are on the line.
