On mobile I’m getting…lol

Error: Choose failed Missing field "user_id" in context for bucket_val = user_idError: Choose failed Missing field "user_id" in context for bucket_val = user_id at Decider.choose (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:19115:41) at isCustomFeedsDisabled (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:266576:32) at Object.shouldInclude (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:266612:66) at Resolver.shouldIncludeChild (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175841:26) at /src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175901:40 at Array.reduce (<anonymous>) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175899:22) at Resolver.iterate I get…

(/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175938:55) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175938:55) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175938:55

Yep same here, quite amusing…

New reddit just gives me a `Oops, something went wrong, please try again later.` error. Old reddit gives a 502 error. Status page claims all systems are OK (they are not)

>Status page claims all systems are OK (they are not)

Classic

Now they are showing this!

Investigating - An issue with a Reddit backend has impacted many users on our site. We are looking into the cause. Apr 25, 2024 - 09:52 PDT

"many users" :-)

Better than the notice for the previous outage which said "Degraded performance" even though the site was inaccessible for a lot of people.

Seriously, I've stopped checking all these 'official' status pages and just check Twitter or HN for an accurate status.

I think for big corporations that the flip doesn’t switch on the status page until it is approved by legal and they get a “comms” message prepared. It isn’t as automatic as we’d like to think.

I'm currently just getting a cached page from ~40 minutes ago on old reddit (not logged in).

same here!

Looks like you can get a bit of a Node stack trace on mobile

```
Yea, that’s what I’m getting Error: Choose failed Missing field "user_id" in context for bucket_val = user_idError: Choose failed Missing field "user_id" in context for bucket_val = user_id at Decider.choose (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:19115:41) at isCustomFeedsDisabled (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:266576:32) at Object.shouldInclude (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:266612:66) at Resolver.shouldIncludeChild (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175841:26) at /src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175901:40 at Array.reduce (<anonymous>) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175899:22) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175938:55) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175938:55) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175938:55)
reddit keep insisting this is frontend error. lmao. smh https://www.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/1ccxbrm/reddit_went...
Speak of which, reddit has become very slow at roughly this time every day for me for at least weeks.
Did anyone encounter this too?
I have noticed it become increasingly more lethargic over only the last two weeks, almost to the point of how slow is linkedin. I attributed it only to excessive client-side script they push into my old and unpowerful device. Now, with this event and discussion here, I believe it's indication of some bigger change or effect.
Yes I have also found it to be slow and when uploading a video upon playback there is no audio. This problem only started within the last few days. I hope they get it fixed soon.
elevated error rates on many frontends #8256 Incident Report for reddit Identified We have identified the issue, and are remediating it; reddit.com should be back shortly. Posted 4 minutes ago. Apr 25, 2024 - 10:14 PDT
It is back up but now I can't post any pictures, there is bugs with the fix.
elevated error rates on many frontends #8256 Incident Report for reddit Monitoring We have deployed a fix, and reddit is up & running again. Posted 1 minute ago. Apr 25, 2024 - 10:28 PDT
You mean around noon to 1pm on the east coast? It shouldn't be that mysterious for why.
It actually was down around this time for a different reason a few days ago
I thought it was only me, I wanted to check my notifications !!
Reddit had just announced they were launching new AI-powered ad tech.
The bots are on strike for greater autonomy.
Error: Choose failed Missing field "user_id" in context for bucket_val = user_idError: Choose failed Missing field "user_id" in context for bucket_val = user_id
got that error too. anyone knows what’s up with reddit?
Mine was Error: Choose failed Missing field "user_id" in context for bucket_val = user_idError: Choose failed Missing field "user_id" in context for bucket_val = user_id at Decider.choose (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:19115:41) at isCustomFeedsDisabled (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:266576:32) at Object.shouldInclude (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:266612:66) at Resolver.shouldIncludeChild (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175841:26) at /src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175901:40 at Array.reduce (<anonymous>) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175899:22) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175938:55) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175938:55) at Resolver.iterate (/src/packages/applications/monolith/bin/index.cjs:175938:55)
https://old.reddit.com/ is returning fine for me.
Accessing the www is dumping an exception message and short stacktrace.
This is also returning 502 for me.
Maybe something upstream from the edge is failing in some region while others haven’t failed. My hunch is some service related to a user_id (from the exception I’m seeing) is failed in one cloud region it’s running from.
Not familiar with Reddit as I haven’t worked there.
Probably merge / update link to status page
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40160193
Feels a little odd they describe it there as just a problem affecting many frontends. Is www/browsers considered just another frontend, not something essential to use the service for most users?
same i was replying to https://old.reddit.com/r/SaaS/comments/1cby14y/find_existing... & it went down fast.
Reddit has been down atleast once every day over the past week or so and it's getting annoying.
Have screenshots. user_id missing in monolith index.cjs application....
It shows, interestingly, a ClojureScript error for me.
Not just 'old.', main reddit domain too
Dang the error is quite creepy tho =))
nah, it's just a stack trace. looks like they messed up error handling, most probably with some A/B testing related thing. surprising at this scale.
I still think that reddit was hijacked, it looks something like easter egg or BSOF but the glitch might related to Nginx right?
it just seems to be old.reddit, maybe this is how they're deprecating it
Nah, new.reddit is down too for me
it's js code, can't be that old, based on the trace it could be some new code written as a wrapper around apis from a messy monolith.
Old.reddit is the only thing working for me
Another win for old.reddit
