Parallels is removing a bunch of features (parallels.com)

I use the "start a VM on boot" as the primary reason I use Parallels (I run VMs on a Mac Mini for my network such as DHCP and DNS). Right now that makes it easy to reboot, but without that, I'll find a different solution (likely a couple of Pi's). I also use it for a Linux VM on my main Mac, but I can use VirtualBox for that for as little as I use it.

No reason to pay the money for 2 Pro licenses, especially since they've greatly increased the price. So I'll be cancelling my subscription when it expires. It's a shame because while there are other solutions, Parallels has nice add-ons, but it's no longer worth it.

I will also add I did contact them to give feedback, and as is typical for these companies, it was a very rude form reply:

> We confirm that this feature forms part of the list that will be removed in the next version.

> This is official and has been mentioned in this KB article: [removed, see above for same link]

> This decision cannot be reverted.

> We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.

> Thanking you in advance for your comprehension.

> Have a nice day ahead.

That reply is just extra motivation to cancel.

Is there not a way to start them on a command line that could replace this functionality?

Yes I can start them on the command line, but then I'm developing a process to do that on boot (which isn't terribly difficult on MacOS but who knows how long it will remain that way). And if I need to do that, why not spend my time just setting up a Pi and let it run, and same myself $200 a year?

Or just get an HP Elitedesk 800 G5 i5-9xxx, way more powerful than a pi with same ballpark power consumption. Easily found on eBay.

Cheers

I thought about that, but I think I'd probably get a used SuperMicro server for about the same price. More power but also IPMI is nice too.

I also have a supermicro, wayyy more juice (10-20x the wattage) but awesome platform.

Huh, right after VMware started it's shenanigans. I'm surprised. Vmware also took away auto start a while back..
