Neovim has an RPC API specifically designed to allow GUIs to render it outside the terminal. Neovide isn’t treating it as a generic TUI.

Theoretically you could support the same RPC API from a completely different text editor, and thereby use any Neovim-compatible frontend . That sounds like a nightmare of course, but it's technically possible.
