By mentioning Bach, you proved my point. That is, tastes change. Bach is no longer top of the charts either.
Put another way, the author's argument is effectively "the music I like and the music I grew up on is no longer the genre of the mainstream." Wow. That's insightful. Life moved on? As if he's never read a history book.

The large body of Bach's work for solo keyboard instruments would suggestion otherwise. Or Beethoven's many works for solo piano. Or Mozart's.
