Layoffs.fyi offers a more complete estimation, currently 1179 tech companies w/ layoffs, totaling 261847 employees laid off in 2023.

Curious, why are these numbers so different from the officially reported numbers? Is Layoff.fyi re-categorizing some employees as tech, but official numbers have them as 'administrative', or some such thing.
