"disk controller" or "SATA adapter" perhaps.

"Host Bus Adapter" covers more sins; could be a firewire 400 card. and still be a disk interface.

RAID controller hardware has always been a cost padding item. Anybody ever test the data retention of the fancy battery backed cards? Or the performance vs bare linux md drivers?
