A person who doesn't care about privacy isn't likely to care about security. And it seems security was the main factor in what we're going through right now.
I can't know but I assume this is the reason why they got rid of Sam. When I listened to him talking, I didn't believe he took security serious. I assume his board colleagues also noticed this based on him pushing for new releases and maybe other things.
