On the corner is a banker with a motorcar

The little children laugh at him behind his back

And the banker never wears a mac

In the pouring rain

Very strange

Given the spelling, I was expecting a history of the apple. But then TIL that it's spelled McIntosh, and so I learned two things today.

Funnily enough the inventor of the coat was actually also called McIntosh.

That was like 3 out of 200 years of the history of the Mackintosh

First sale

Vulcanization

Today

Awful photo in the article.

Why?

Does anyone know why the Apple Macintosh was named so?

According to the lore, McIntosh was Jef Raskin's favorite apple cultivar.

Caution: folklore.org can consume hours of your life! That site is full of awesome stories from the early days of the Mac. It's addictive!

This! I recommend the book[1] as a slighty less addictive version.

I don’t know but I did hear that Jobs actually did get approval from McIntosh the stereo company to avoid any trademark lawsuits later, and thats why he spelled it Macintosh.
