Yes - shovel and bucket.
I took 50cm rings each, for a total of 9 for 4.5m. They weigh about 300kg each and could be rolled into the garden.
I got some scaffolding pipes and built a "gantry" over my hole. We could lower them by attaching a small chain operated pulley.
