“Project Moohan” Is Google and Samsung’s Inevitable Apple Vision Pro Clone (arstechnica.com)

The interesting thing about the Vision Pro is how what hype there was has just flatlined.

Curiously I do not think Google and Samsung are terribly badly placed. One oddity of the AR and VR space is the web stack for it works surprisingly well, including in the Oculus browser on the Quest 2. Frankly as a third party dev you would have to be a bit nuts to go all in on platform specific APIs and it would be wiser to go either web or Unity.

This means I doubt we will see the emergence of another hyper sticky App Store type phenomenon, if the entire sector takes off at all.

Why wouldn’t it flatline? Apple said “you can’t buy or even order this today, it will be expensive”, and, IIRC, followed that up with “we don’t expect to sell many of the first generation”.

Also, at the moment Apple doesn’t have any reason to do any marketing to the general public. They’ll be working on getting developers onboard.

I think that’s a big question, too. Even if it does take off, there’s the question of how fast it will take off.
