Why do west germans have a negative opinion of east germans?... I vowed never to return to berlin, hated it, so I'm interested in the reasons.

Just look around in the comments here, you'll find plenty of stereotyping. One thing is important though: Berlin is neither East nor West (never has been after WW2), it's entirely it's own thing culture wise. Your experience in Berlin won't really tell you anything about the rest of Germany.

Yes and no. I'd say munich was a bit different, and better, but also quite a bit of the same BS.

Berlin seemed to be trying really hard to be an "elite city", like NYC, including many of the same assholes.
