Ask HN: How do you use Obsidian.md for note taking?

I have a script I run using Alfred on macOS that creates a daily template page with some default sections for a few different brain dumps. I have a to-do list that gets updated based on the previous items. It removes any completed tasks from previous days and carries over tasks that weren't completed.

I have a section for some daily writing where I try to do some stream-of-consciousness.

Another section is for meeting and calls where I tend to write what people are saying to cement it better in my mind.

I will also use these daily pages to create bigger notes.

Example: [[Raspberry_Pi]] is an overall header, so I may open it up and either add general notes to it, or go to the projects section and add another link to something like [[pico-projects]] or something like that.

Adding certain tags to these pages will automatically move them to different folders depending on how they are tagged. Daily, projects, pi, etc. will move items to their respective folders.

Basically my daily pages are places where I dump stuff I don't care to look for again and use specific pages to track everything else I care about and will revisit as needed.

Out of curiosity, why do you use Alfred instead of the built in daily template functionality?

I am wondering too!

I use the Zettelkasten method for the most part. I try to link notes from structure ("category") pages rather than with tags. Not sure how that will turn out in the long run. So far I seem to be doing pretty well in not just finding notes I knew to search for, but also discovering notes I had forgotten about.

I also have separate folders for things I don't want to keep in my Zettelkasten, such as recipes, weekly food planning, or notes I revisit a lot (like once every day).

I don't ! I've been using Joplin, much simpler and has what I need + the sync story seems better/less expensive..

I just need a folder-like structure for markdowns and some labels (which I barely use) to sync w/ encryption between devices. I thought Obsidian gave way too many knobs that I didn't use, and the sync was expensive.

Note taking is more about taking the notes than the fuss around, at least for me :)

Yet again I'm trying Obsidian and this time at least, I realized that an iCloud folder works fine for having those notes on the phone as well as on the MBP.

Yep I need windows and Linux access too tho
