I currently work at a late stage company in a very unexciting industry doing ML. Since GPT4 it's mostly just been do the stupid LLM idea of the day, instead of real valuable work.
Frankly, it's a relatively small company with most revenue from one product and I don't think they should really be bothering with ML.
The company has a lot of fundamental problems it needs to fix before taking on something as risky as ML.
That being said, the CEO promised ML to investors in the last round and now wants the company to be an 'AI' company whatever that means. So the ML function is safe.
They're also sponsoring my green card, but that's still at least 2 years away.
My challenge is the market is crap and I don't have pedigree (big company name or top degree). I also don't have status so can't get a lot of US jobs, so switching is harder than ever.
I'm thinking to just leave and find something else to do, even considering quitting the industry and going back to school.
I'm just wondering, would you stay for a couple of years to get your GC or leave if the situation sucks and it seems like a career dead end?
