Hello HN!
I'm Tal Hoffman, a 26-year-old software engineer (you may have seen my previous post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34964197). I'm working on Mellow (https://www.playmellow.com), a vertically-integrated spreadsheet tailored for small businesses, with a primary focus on small retailers.
The challenge faced by small businesses is that they want automation but are reluctant to part with their spreadsheets, and so they're stuck between a rock and a hard place:
(1) Stick with spreadsheets and sacrifice automation (Cheap but labor-intensive, error-prone, and limited automation tools with limited vertical capabilities).
(2) Switch to a more robust system (Expensive, often inflexible, requires significant ramp-up time, and still requires complementary spreadsheets).
After engaging with numerous small retailers and agencies over the past year, I decided to take the plunge and develop a retailer-focused vertical spreadsheet web app. It currently integrates with Shopify and WooCommerce, and we have an alpha-level integration with eBay.
There's plenty of work ahead, particularly in terms of improving spreadsheet flexibility, developing templates, adding more integrations, and, most importantly, creating comprehensive documentation!
I would greatly appreciate any feedback from the HN community.
