It seems to be all instances actually, see https://the-federation.info/platform/73 and click on "Active last month".

That's quite shocking. I run a push notification service and have ~25k daily active users, and it runs on a single 2 core machine with 2 GB RAM. I'm not saying that it's easy to run a service for so many users, but the largest of the Lemmy instance has ~3k users. That's super small, and a lot smaller than expected.




Very surprising indeed.

I suppose one can look not just at the absolute numbers right now (or whenever those stats are from) but at the gradient and extrapolate forward.

If they can sustain anything like that rate of signups for even a week or two they'll start to hit interesting numbers.
