Sentience is essentially the ability to use your mind as a CRUD database and apply contextual information to each interaction with it.

When you apply that reasoning it’s hard to argue that any living animal is not sentient.

This is a great start to recognising the obvious, that we are limiting our definition of sentience by our own inability to understand other animals.
