Super misleading statement, especially with the accompanying footnote. Quantum physics indicates there really is true randomness in the physical world, but let’s just ignore that, stick to Newtonian physics, and throw in a quick footnote to cover ourselves.




Collapse posits truly random events, but there are many deterministic theories. In the end it doesn't really matter though- even if apparent collapse is caused by decoherence, you still subjectively experience winding up in one of them. There are other theories (Bohm comes to mind) that are entirely deterministic without decoherence, but they rely on a random seed and non-local hidden variables.
