This was an enjoyable read. I liked the prose.
Just before reading the article I watched a VLog by Jisoo where she is exploring various cities as part of the BLACKPINK world tour. I often complain about not being able to travel, and that I’m too passive, spend too much time on my computer, that life is just passing by. Yet here I am making time to watch someone else do exactly what I supposedly would like to do too. And I don’t even have any good excuses.
What I’m saying is I’m a sucker for posts like this since they hit home. Ultimately it’s just wallowing in sadness and self pity. No actual change ever comes from reading them.
As an escape room designer, I’m not sure I’ve seen malignant escapism in my industry. However, maybe it’s there among the players who have played 400 or even 500+ escape rooms. I like to think of my games and developmental escapism. At least while you’re getting away from real problems, you’re able to build up some soft skills that can actually benefit you in the real world.

Still great fun though!
