Date format should flow from smalles to largest units. That is human friendly. When the rest of the world says 25th March, it's more human friendly for two reasons:
1. The most important part is the day, and that comes first.
2. The month only changes every 30/31 days, so for that duration it is enough to just say "Today is the 25th" therefore cutting the need for the bit that we already know (that is March). Similarly for the year, you don't mention that it's 2023 for a whole year pretty much.
