The removal of XUL is when Mozilla's position as an innovator and industry leader showed it had died.

Chrome is ubiquitous not because of chrome, but because chromium is the most friendly open platform to use. V8 regularly runs laps around spider monkey, and has been embedded into thousands of critical business infrastructure. V8 isolates being a big feature. Spider monkey hasn't kept up. It's Firefox only.

Chromium can result in things like electron. Firefox could have positioned themselves that way, but chose isolation. They only want to develop Firefox, and because of that they are doing a poor job.

The math doesn't work out, eventually Firefox will have to become a chromium skin, and it will be all the better for it. Google is, after all, the ones paying for Mozilla to exist outside of their yahoo deal.

That isn't true though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpiderMonkey#Use
