But you should know and understand that the atmosphere and general (as a business) outlook towards freelancing has largely turned sour over the last 15+(?) years with the rise of the gig economy and the increase in remote freelancers from ALL over the world.
From your story, I think you're best bet is to incorporate and do work under a company name to freelance, yes its ironic in a way but the game is the game and guess what? That's the game you'll have to play in this day and age. Plus not even mentioning the numerous benefits to incorporation (although I speak as a US-centric). Anyway good luck!
