Sad news. Faithless have some defining feeling in my earlier life. Hard to describe but just loved their music as it really connected with me, which was unique because I was much more a grunge guy. Somehow Faithless’ music transcended genres.

They had so many great tunes but one I really love is Salva Mea:

“Just below my skin I’m screaming”

Go well Maxi.

Edit: Remember seeing them at Long Marsden airfield, on the same night as Chicane. Big night.

Rest in peace. He was a beacon of sincerity and joy in our sometimes too cynical world.

A too young age to go. I hope he didn't suffer much at the end, and if he did, I hope he managed to cope.

For people who don't have a Spotify account. You don't need an account for youtube

Thanks. It drives me mad when people post Spotify links. Wish YouTube was the default choice for sharing music. I guess Spotify has enough market share that people don’t even think about using something else.

There is usually a higher chance of finding the song your looking for on Spotify. Bands rarely put their songs that don't have a video yet on youtube. Then you have to rely on somebody else to upload a stolen version of it and hope the quality isn't bat.

I don't open youtube links to songs anymore. Chances are that the person who's sending you the link, the same one who won't bother to pay $11 to listen to music in good quality, isn't sending you a link to the official bands/labels channel, and the song is in bad quality. When you get a spotify link, you know you get good quality and the artist gets paid for your listen.

Faithless changed my life. What a time to be alive during their peak. Thanks for the links, rest in peace

One of my all-time favorite music videos.

I made a playlist called Maxfaith with songs from Maxi Jazz band too.

Insomnia 2.0 Avicii Remix https://youtu.be/h198WJrquXQ

This track was how I came to know of Maxi and now they're both gone.

Thanks for sharing! Hadn’t heard Aviciis remix before.

Personally I was always a fan of their Mohamed Ali track.

Seen them live a couple of times and it was always a belter.

RIP

Tune

Saw them years ago at a festival in Ireland, they were due on before the Stereophonics - thankfully for everyone, including the stereophonics, they were delayed at customs and ended up closing the night. Utterly insane gig, they were absolutely brilliant and the poor old milquetoast Stereophonics would have struggled to follow them. RIP - keep tearing off those tights with your teeth

RIP, may he finally get some sleep.

Doubt, he s going to meet the DJ

I can’t stop listening to his music ever since I heard Insomnia for the first time.

Rest in peace. You made a difference and left a mark in millions.

Sad news, they were the first band I went to see live and a big gateway into electronic music for me as youngster. Their tracks have stood the test of time and he’ll be remembered fondly, he came across as a great guy in addition to a great lyricist and vocalist.

Not well known, but an awesome track: Woozy, also on the The Beach soundtrack.

At Pinkpop, a Dutch festival, the audience to Faithless created such a tremor that it was recorded as an earthquake.

Salva tea, Maxi.

My brother had a wav clip of Insomnia set as our startup sound on our Gateway 2000 computer back in 1995. I was 10. It was the beginning of my love of electronic music. RIP

Met him once when he was racing his favorite sports car in a charity race in Europe. He knew his automobiles I can get you that much, deeply impressed with his technical knowledge.

Absolute bummer.

For anyone unfamiliar, Faithless was a huge group in the electronica scene in the 90s and early 2000s. Some well known hits include "God is a DJ", "Insomnia", and "We Come 1". If you're young and don't know them, check them out. For us older folks, lots of early morning memories of better times. :)

I wouldn't say better. Definitely lighter and brighter. But also, at least for me, a lot more clueless, and with more unknown unknowns. Though maybe it depends on who feels old enough, as early mornings tend to be better nowadays :)

Yeah absolutely, early morning memories of better times.

I saw Maxi Jazz perform Insomnia and God is a DJ live with the Heritage Orchestra and Pete Tong, what a fantastic night. RIP

I suspect Insomnia or God Is A DJ was probably the first Faithless track I heard, but it was hearing the Reverence album that turned me into a die hard fan of Faithless and Maxi. I practically had it on repeat for months. I saw them live sometime in the early 2000s and it was amazing.

He just had a voice that I could listen to forever.

I saw Faithless back in '97 or '98.

It was a pretty small venue, held about 800 or so, but they had the place feeling like it was many times bigger.

Maxi Jazz stuck around at the end as people were leaving giving anyone who wanted one a high five - great era defining band, great MC, great human.

RIP. He was a great DJ.

For reference, probably his most popular song: Insomnia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8JEm4d6Wu4

Don’t forget his collaboration in the One giant leap album, it is one great set of tunes…

An astonishing artist, poet, Buddhist and by all accounts, all round good guy as well. Saw them live at Brixton a long time ago. One of the best gigs I've ever been to. RIP X

Saw him at V Fest circa early 2000’s. Just amazing. Sad news.

Same, was completely off my face so don't remember much though !

Rest in Peace. I was at their concert in Budapest almost 20 years ago. Best concert I've even been to.

One of the patron saints of 90's electronic music. God, this makes me sad. Rest in peace

He had such a unique voice. Faithless is on permanent mp3 rotation on my cellphone.

Ohh man. Memories of Pinkpop...

What did he die of?

God is DJ

That's some painful projection.

Best of luck on your trials.

And knew that someday people would love me too.

None of that hecklin' about my black skin got through,

I would walk barefoot through hell for you"

Seeing this reply I expected some controversy but I found nothing.

Probably just a disgruntled fundamentalist who believes any reference to God is herecy.

The kind of small mind you expect to find in the comment section of a news site from a puritanical small town.

Obvious bait is obvious.

Strange bait is strange. Too random to be obvious.
