Something I learned from a principal engineer- estimates from sde 1 multiply by at least 3x, from sde 2 and sde 3 multiple by at least 2x. And then add two-four weeks padding. And then pray.



Have you tried applying that technique in an environment where you're expected to estimate every little bug fix? (some of which would often take less time to do than to agree on an estimate for!)


Yes, rule still applies. But I work in an area where nothing is little. It’s not just the code change, I have to think about all the changes that come along with the code fix.


If you really want to hit your goal, multiply by π, not by 3!
