I started working on https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/82131 because the idea that different kernel => reshuffled userland is a stupid an a massive source of unneeded switching costs.
I am not mad at Linux, but monoliths at the 10M LoC order always need competition. Otherwise we have a major source of unchecked complexity growth with no escape.
