I've seen several pieces similar to this one hit the HN front page recently. This one, the "insight porn" one, and others speak to a growing discontentment in the startup scene.
I think the underlying issues are:
1. The low-hanging fruit seems to have been picked. Finding a marketable idea is getting increasingly difficult.
2. Valuation seems to be uncoupled from the fundamentals. Figuring out why some startups take off while others don't is getting increasingly difficult as well.
