This in combination with the 3D acceleration work going into QEMU [1] could end up being a pretty compelling solution for running the x86 Linux version of Steam on macOS.

I'm hoping Alyssa Rosenzweig and Hector Martin's work will allow Linux to access the GPU directly.

Can you run Win32/Win64 binaries on ARM WINE / Proton?

Box86/box64 lets you run Linux x86 Steam running x86 Proton. I'm not sure about ARM Proton.

I was under the impression that Box86 would not work on the M1 because it wants to run in 32 bit mode, and Apple did not implement 32 bit mode on their processors.

Rosetta on Linux is also an option.

Yes, with FEX-Emu

Games on Proton (WINE) on Linux on Rosetta on macOS?

If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid :-)

You would need Apple to support Vulkan in their GPU drivers first.

Wouldn’t people working on Asahi right now write their own GPU drivers?

Using MoltenV maybe, similarly to vkd3d?

A large issue with this will be that Rosetta doesn't support AVX, AVX2 extensions, which are increasingly commonly used in games.

I would like to see Hackintosh continue to flourish on x86 chips, but I may be asking for a lot here.

Depends however on what the 3D acceleration supports in terms of features.
