This distributed generative fractal art rendering project has been running more or less continuously since 1999, I believe. Quite an accomplishment!
I stopped running it myself around when Gnome and Ubuntu nerfed gnome-screensaver (2012-ish?) and electricsheep was a royal pain to reinstall every 6 months whenever I upgraded Ubuntu (I don't think those two events were connected, except that the Gnome/Ubuntu change got me out of the habit of expecting to see a screensaver, and thus prompting a desire for a prettier one).
