> The McMinn County School board noted the book's "unnecessary use of profanity and nudity and its depiction of violence and suicide" as the reason for its removal.

I’m wondering if schools under this board are allowed to carry the Bible in their libraries.

I feel like the US is getting ever more divided with parts of the country becoming more liberal (typically the people that profit from the current system) and other parts becoming ever more conservative (typically the rural areas).

I remember seeing a Gallup poll a while ago that almost 50% of Americans still believe that a couple getting pregnant without getting married first is morally wrong. That's certainly very far away from the 60s with hippies and free love.

The hippies were a tiny minority in the 60s with an outsized cultural influence and legacy, especially in hindsight.

You cannot compare 50% holding "traditional values" (for lack of a better word) today with an unrealistic view of how the 60s have supposedly been. It's pretty certain that back then even more people than 50% held that view.

What’s the “system” here?

Rural areas do benefit from government subsidies and redistribution the most, as far as I understand.
