I used to read Ars Technica a lot more, but since ~2018, the comment sections there started becoming extremely toxic and one-sided very quickly.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with Condé Nast, because WIRED isn't doing too great either in that regard.




You're not alone, I just avoid it. I'd rather hope to see the same news or topics here and see what people have to say. The Ars comment section is scary and just makes me lose hope in humanity.


I noticed the same. It gives some hard insight into their present audience. I remember when it used to be more tech based and now there is an increasing political tone.


I had been reading RPS (Rock Paper Shotgun) a video-games review website until 2015 or so, then it all... changed. It's a lot less lively there now.

I fear that HN has been on that road since about 2017, the Zeitgeist has changed, or maybe I was just always a strange man with strange principles :p
