Reading that article, I had the thought that maybe it is time to abandon mail for all communication and only use it for the required signup processes with web sites.
I had actually given up on mail months ago, in the sense of not considering it a reliable channel anymore. But I haven't been strict about enforcing it, and instead live with the risk of missing important messages.
